The AFA is pleased to offer a curator-led tour of New York: 1962-1964, led by Shira Backer, Leon Levy Associate Curator at The Jewish Museum.

New York: 1962-1964 presents works by a multitude of leading artists of the time including Robert Rauschenberg, Jasper Johns, Norman Lewis, Claes Oldenburg, Diane Arbus, Andy Warhol, and Faith Ringgold, among others. The exhibition highlights the complexity of the urban space these New York-based artists encountered and the life-altering events that took place during this period such as the Cuban Missile Crisis and the assassination of President John F. Kennedy. Together, these works address the race, gender, and class struggles that were at the forefront of the American experience and witness the ways in which artists responded to this moment in time.
