Artist Jeffrey Gibson and Met curator Jane Panetta have been working together on The Genesis Façade Commission: Jeffrey Gibson, The Animal That Therefore I Am. Jane Panetta will personally lead this special tour, offering insight into Gibson’s four monumental sculptures for The Met Fifth Avenue’s exterior.
The commission officially opened on September 12th. As those who attended our Spring Luncheon know, Jane Panetta and Jeffrey Gibson spoke of the project and shared a preview of the work with our audience then. We are thrilled that Jane Panetta will also guide us through Lorna Simpson: Source Notes. Nearly twenty years ago, the AFA organized a retrospective of Simpson’s work, and this exhibition offers members a chance to revisit her groundbreaking practice through a new lens.
