Overview

Designed by the artist Renée Green, the exhibition’s catalogue is itself an artist’s book. It includes essays by Cornelia Lauf on the development of artists’ books since the mid-1980s; Clive Phillpot on the artists’ books of the 1960s and their influence on today’s artists; Jane Rolo on the concept of Itinerant Texts and its relation to contemporary artists’ books; and the cultural critic Brian Wallis on the social and political implications of contemporary artists’ involvement in the publishing process. The book also features an interview by Thomas Padon, former AFA Director of Exhibitions, with the artist Martha Wilson, and an afterword by Glenn O’Brien, the former Editor of Interview magazine.
