In this focused program, Pauline Forlenza, AFA Director & CEO, sits down with Dr. Jill Deupi, Beaux Arts Director & Chief Curator of the Lowe Art Museum, to explore how museums build public trust, deepen learning, and create meaningful partnerships with their communities. Together, they will discuss exhibitions and programs shaped through collaboration and reflect on how they measure the impact of this work.

About Jill Deupi, JD, PHD:

Dr. Jill Deupi is the Beaux Arts Executive Director and Chief Curator of the Lowe Art Museum (University of Miami). Prior to assuming this position in 2014, Deupi was Director and Chief Curator of University Museums at Fairfield University, where she was also an Assistant Professor of Art History. Her prior professional experience includes work at the Royal Academy of Arts, the Art Institute of Chicago, the Snite Museum of Art, the National Gallery of Art, and the Wallace Collection. A recipient of the prestigious “Rome Prize,” Dr. Deupi wrote her doctoral dissertation on art and cultural politics in 18th-century Naples and Rome. She is a Fellow of the American Academy in Rome, the Leading Change Institute, and the Getty Leadership Institute. Deupi currently chairs the City of Coral Gables Arts Advisory Panel in addition to serving as a member of the South Miami Art in Public Places Ordinance Trust Fund Advisory Committee, the American Federation of Arts (AFA)’s Board of Trustees as well as its Exhibition Committee, and the Museum Travel Alliance (MTA)’s Executive Advisory Board. She has served on the boards of the Association of Art Museum Directors (AAMD) as well as the Association of Academic Art Museums and Galleries (AAMG), been a member of Cornell Museum (Rollin College)’s Visiting Committee, and, for many years, co-chaired the Task Force for the Protection of University Collections. Dr. Deupi has also been a peer reviewer for the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH), the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS), and AAM’s Reaccreditation Committee, and remains an active member of AAM, AAMD, AAMG, ICOM, and UMAC. She holds a B.A. in French Literature and Political Science (Mount Holyoke College); a J.D. (Washington College of Law, American University); an M.A. in the History of Art (Birkbeck College, University of London); a Ph.D. in Art History (University of Virginia); a graduate certificate in Arts Administration (New York University); and an executive education certificate in Art and Cultural Heritage Law (Georgetown University Law Center). Beyond the Lowe, Deupi’s passions include her family, reading, discovering new cultures, meeting new people, and all things Italian. She is also a proud “Big” through Miami-Dade County’s Big Brothers Big Sisters program.
